small amount in orange for duck’s bill
Tensions: Cuff Tension 5, rest of Slipper Sox Tension 7
Machine:
Brother 260 or any 9mm bulky knitting machine that can achieve my gauge of 4 stitches and 6 rows per inch.
Sizes: S (6”) M (7”)
*Note: When short rowing heel & toe and directions say to put needles
back to work, push them back to position D not all the way back to position B to keep them from slipping off.
DIRECTIONS
Directions are written as S (M)
Tension
5 cast on 30 (30) stitches with contrast color waste yarn.
Knit 4-6 rows scrap ending with carriage on right (for 2nd slipper, end with carriage on left side so inside
seam will be on opposite side).
Change
to main yarn (yellow) and stay with tension 5 for cuff.
Cuff:
Knit 12 (16) rows and hang first row back on these same needles.
Change to T7 and knit 2 (4) rows.
Put left 15 (15) stitches in hold (these needles all the way out) and set hold switch on carriage.
(For second slipper put right stitches in hold instead).
RC000 Knit 14 (18) rows on right needles only. (Second
slipper sock knit on left needles only).
Set
carriage for Hold and short row for heel as follows:
Place one needle next to carriage at beginning of each row in hold,
(all the way out) until 7 stitches are left in work. Now place one needle opposite carriage back to work at the beginning
of each row until all needles are back in work. *See Note above.
Carriage set to knit Normal, knit 14 (18) rows.
Now put carriage back in hold, and change to orange. Shape toe same as heel, down to 7 stitches and
back out. Now, still with orange, **short row another toe down to 7 stitches and back out.
Change back to yellow and with Carriage set for Normal, knit 2 rows both
sizes. Cut main yarn leaving long yarn tail.
With
contrast scrap yarn knit 4-6 rows. Cut yarn and knit 1 row with no yarn in yarn feeder to drop.
Finishing:
With right sides together, fold scrapped off stitches from toe in half and hang back on 15 (15) needles,
2 stitches on each needle, with long yarn tail on right side for binding off. To reduce bulk pull front set of stitches
through back set of stitches. Bind off with long yarn tail right to left. Remove all scrap yarn.
Add wriggle eyes to top as shown. Close long side seam and
cuff. Cut and tie all yarn ends.
Elastic can be put in cuff if desired, making sure it is not too tight.
Or you could knit a mock rib, every other needle, and hang for a snugger fit.
